How we choose
One question comes first: would this person be glad to get it, at this moment in their life?
What makes the list
- It suits the occasion and the person, and we can explain why in a sentence or two.
- We can say plainly who it suits and who should skip it.
- On pages about hard times, it also has to ask little of the person receiving it: no upkeep, no thank-you required.
What we check
We check each product's price, details and link when we add it, and again when we review a page. Prices change, so treat ours as a guide and confirm on the seller's site before you buy.
Have we tried everything?
No. Unless a page says we used something ourselves, a recommendation is based on what the maker publishes and what we know about the moment it's meant for. We won't suggest we tested something when we didn't.
How commissions work
Some links may earn us a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the site running. It doesn't decide what we recommend, and we also list ideas that earn us nothing. Read our affiliate disclosure.
Health claims
We don't claim that a product treats depression, anxiety or any other condition, even when a seller's marketing leans that way. A gift can be a comfort. It isn't treatment.
